Walking
Tall for Shap Pool
A
PENSIONER strutted his stuff through Shap village on Bank Holliday
Monday to raise money for the Swimming Pool.
Seventy-one-year-old
John Lowis put on a pair of 32 inch stilts for a high rise hostelery
hike between the Bulls Head and Greyhound public houses. At the
end of the walk, he had a well earned drink.
"I
have got a lot of pleasure out of the swimming pool over the years"
he said. "I certainly appreciate the swimming pool committee
and the pool is a great thing for the village but it is difficult
for them to raise money to keep it going.
The
athletic pensioner, who first learned to walk on stilts as
a child, was accompanied on his journey by a group of collectors
with buckets in which they collected almost £200 together
with sponsorship the total came to £461.42.
