This is the developer's own montage from 2.5 miles away. The
Pennines were never meant to look like this... COST is working hard to make sure they never do.
Ten Towering
Turbines Threaten Shap and the Eden Valley
The
above picture was scanned from publicity material. The quality is poor,
but does not disguise the significant impact the proposed
wind farm would have on the landscape. If constructed these turbines will change the landscape
and will be visible from points as far apart as High
Street, the Cumbrian Mountains, Blencathra, Penrith and the
Eden Valley, the Pennines and the Howgills.
The proposed "Renewable
Energy Park" consisting of ten turbines of 100 metres which will
be seen by many residents of Shap and other villages from their
homes, and will almost certainly be heard by many of them. The
construction of such a site, including access roads would change
the character of the community.
COST does
not believe that negligible reduction in carbon emissions can
justify the ruination of the landscape and ecology, nor can
subsidising onshore wind power be justified when what is required
is massive investment to research effective, efficient and
long-term solutions to global warming.
Gamesa have now been quiet since early 2007... their UK projects are no longer mentioned on their website... COST continue to work with FELLS for the benefit of Eden Lakeland and Lunesdale scenery.
