Shap Local History Society was formed in 2001 with the aim of recording and collecting together the vast amount of archive material relating to the Parish.

The aim is to digitally record photographs and documents which are in private hands, returning the originals to the owners.

A project is also underway to make oral history recordings. Much of the equipment to set up the society was funded by the National Lottery Awards for All Fund. Funding is also received from Cumbria County Council Neighbourhood forum for ongoing costs to fund exhibitions.

The Society hosts monthly lectures and an annual social event in November. The monthly lectures are held on the last Monday of the month. Details of these are shown on the events page, and application forms for membership can be obtained by contacting us - or come along to the next meeting.
