GAMESA ENERGY Press Release from EU states: Mergers: Commission approves proposed acquisition of Gamesa Energía's wind farm business by Iberdrola RenovablesThe European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of Gamesa Energia's businesses for the promotion and development of wind farms in continental Europe, UK, Mexico and the Dominican Republic by Iberdrola Renovables, a Spanish energy company. After examining the operation, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.4th December 2008
Gamesa Energea Corporation is a multinational corporation based in Spain. In addition to wind turbines they used to manufacture equipment for civil and military aircraft and the aeronautics industry - so much for their green credentials. Gamesa Energy UK is one of many subsidiaries of Gamesa Energea. Information from their web sites, it was formed in 2003, has a staff of eight with a combined 20 years experience in renewable energy. Which seems remarkably little; less than three years each at the time of writing. Have any of them previous experience in the sector? Steve Allen told us at the Shap Wells meeting that Gamesa technology and equipment were in use in a wind farm in the UK, but their own projects are all at planning or pre-planning stages. See our news page for details of the Advertising Standards Authority finding against Gamesa Energy UK... and David Maclean's (MP) call for them to leave the Cumbrian landscape alone. Also, how Gamesa have put some of their plans for a Welsh windfarm on hold... Further down the news page is information about the trouble with some of Gamesa's American turbines breaking up... As of July 2007, it would seem Steve Allen is no longer with Gamesa, and Gamesa are no longer using Pendragon for their PR. Gamesa's new inhouse PR man is Huw Evans, and the new project manager is Lee Watt.
