Harvest celebrations at Shap began with a service for pupils of Shap school in St. Michael's church on Friday afternoon, in the evening a harvest supper as held in the memorial hall, when a lovely three course meal prepared and served by women from the church; between courses, diners could have a go at two quizzes, and a raffle was also held. The event raised £438.00 for church funds.
On Sunday morning a peal of bells welcomed worshippers, for a service led by Revd Martin Dew. At the start of the service children carried offerings of produce to the altar, the parable of the Talents was read by Elaine Allison, and Mr Dew preached on the same subject. Organist was jant Wood, and children led the singing of the Hymn 'He's got the Whole World in His hands'. During the service the newest member of the Church was welcomed when Mr Dew baptised Jake, son of John and Claire Harrison who belong to one of the local farming families.
Produce was available for sale following the service, this raised £127; the proceeds will go to the Bishop of Carlisle's Harvest appeal to help children in Honduras and India.
