The annual Christmas fundraising day in aid of St. Michael’s church, Shap was held in the Memorial hall on Friday. The event included stalls selling festive fare and gifts, competitions, a raffle and a separate draw for a magnificent Christmas hamper.
Meanwhile morning coffee and festive lunches were served. In the afternoon Santa Claus arrived in time for children coming from Playgroup and school, and there was an opportunity for the youngsters to tell the gentleman himself what they were hoping to find under the tree on Christmas morning.
In the evening a Christmas Domino Drive was held when 11 tables played for a range of good prizes, the top score of 117 was gained by Joyce Burns of Penrith. There was another raffle and the Christmas hamper winner was drawn, this being won by T. Blenkarn of Greystoke.
The day’s effort raised just over £500 from both events this being well down on previous years.
