Shaps Got Talent

shapsgottalent_2s.jpgShap Swimming Pool committee organised a talent show in the Memorial hall entitled 'Shap's Got Talent'.  A long queue formed before the doors opened, and the hall was soon packed with people of all ages.  The compere was Stephen Twiddy, and the panel consisted of Anna Dutson, Lesley Holder and Darren McGuffog.  Sound and lighting was provided by John Shepherd of Up Front Entertainment, who had generously given his services free of charge.

First to take to the stage were Bethany Atkinson and Chelsea Twiddy who sang and danced to 'Angel in the Night, with colourful make up and hair they gave a lively performance.  They were followed by Matthew Miller who sang 'Valerie', a creditable performance. Molly Woof sang the Alexandra Berke song 'Tell me a sweet love song', a confident performance of a song with lots of lyrics.   The final act in the first half was Daniel Holder who dressed like Michael Jackson danced to 'Beat It'.

During the interval there was a bar and refreshments, and a raffle was held.

The second half opened with Dalton Frith performing a fast moving and lively Karate routine to the Michael Jackson song 'Bad'. Thomas Young sang the Queen number 'Don't' stop me now'. A trio consisting of Abbie Westhorpe, Imogen Stubbs and Alesha Young in matching costumes and with lovely hairdos were 'Hannah Montana'.  Caitlin Poulson sang the theme song from Only Fools and Horses without accompaniment; her sweet voice was a treat to listen to.

There were then a few late entries, Louis Johnston mimed playing guitar, Nirvana Frith aged 4 danced to 'Pokerface'. Other dance routines were performed by Charlie Healy and Natasha Brompton, and Ella Harrison.

It was evident that much planning and rehearsal had taken place since all the performances were polished, and the confidence with which they performed had everyone cheering and applauding each act. Throughout the evening, the panel made encouraging comments to the performers all of whom were of primary school age. The audience had all been given voting slips, and whilst these were counted the stage was opened for dancing to 'Thriller'.

The raffle for many valuable prizes was drawn before the results were announced.

The winner was nine year old Dalton Frith, second place went to Daniel Holder and third was Molly Woof; all received cash and sweets, and all performers received sweets.

At the close of the competition Mrs Dutson thanked everyone for their support, and said that the event had proved that Shap definitely does have talent. The event raised a total of £800 for Swimming Pool funds.
