St Michael's Church
Mission Statement: ‘St Michael’s – serving God and our community’
‘Thank you to all who responded so magnificently to the Church Roof Appeal in 2010. Roof repairs were duly completed. In spring 2013 St Michael’s Church received an anonymous donation which will allow us to complete other ongoing repair work to the building. We also have plans to improve the heating, glaze in the Morning Chapel, and install kitchen and toilet facilities. We trust that all these improvements will encourage more people to use this lovely building and allow us to explore ways to continue God’s work in our community.

So sorry to hear of the theft of lead from the roof of St. Michael's. Just read about it onthe BBC news website. It's been a long time since I was living in Shap, but have very fond memories of the people and my time there. Not sure if there's much I can do given the extent of the funds needed to be raised, but if you're arranging a fund raising account, please let me know.
With all good wishes,
Gerald Field
Sorry we have not picked up your message before now Gerald. It is so nice to hear from you.
We were all very shocked when the lead was taken and also very demoralised. However the response we have had to our plight has been astonishing.
In five short months we have raised over £25,000 and have started to repair the roof alreadyn not a moment too soon I can tell you as rain has been pouring into Church all summer. There is likely to be some subsequent damage to the fabric.
We are still raising money as we have not quite reached our target but we have gone ahead in faith confident that we will still get more contributions.
Hope this finds you and Lucy and the boys (must be growing up now) well
kind regards
Jean Jackson.
