AS AT 7 JULY 2010 THE VILLAGE IS VISIBLE

The village of Mardale in the Lake District disappeared when the Haweswater valley was flooded in 1935.

When water levels are very low, the walls of the Mardale can still be seen.

It is usually only visible in long, dry summers but has reappeared because of the recent lack of rain.

United Utilities, which looks after Cumbria's water supplies, said the region's reservoirs were about 53% full in October 04 compared with around 70% the previous year.

I remember going to see Mardale as a child.  The water level was really, really low and we walked through the village, along with a couple of hundred other people! (With hindsight I'm not sure how safe that was!)  I'd love to see it again.  Can anyone confirm that it's visible again?

YES I can confirm that Mardale is visible as of 7 July 2010 as water levels in Haweswater are at 50% after the driest 6 months for 40 years.

I was priviledged to see Mardale in 19884 and 1989 and wondered what is the current level of Haweswater is .... in view of the torrential rain over the winter and that  united utilites are now talking of applying for drought restrictions
